Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 614

Everett picked up the glass of warm water and downed it in one go. After a moment, his voice raspy, he said, "Selena, the teacher who saved Mateo from the fire and ended up with severe burns is Yasmine. She's here in France for treatment."

Selena was caught off guard by this revelation. She hadn't expected Yasmine to put her own life on the line for Mateo. To her, having Mateo was just a way to keep Everett connected to her. Deep down, she wasn't fond of Mateo. Otherwise, she wouldn't have said those things to frighten him.

But she could see why Yasmine would risk everything to save Mateo. With that bond, how could she not win him over? Yet Selena kept these thoughts to herself. She simply looked at Everett, her lips barely parting, "So, your so-called three-month business trip was actually to be with her?"

"No."

Everett responded quickly, frowning as he set the record straight, "Selena, don't you know how I feel about you by now? I'm here for work. I promised to take full responsibility for her recovery. France is known for its advanced cosmetic surgery, so I arranged for her to come here."

"I've left most of her care to Alex. My heart is only yours."

With that, he stood up and knelt on one knee in front of her, grabbing her hand and pressing it against his chest despite her resistance. "It's only you, truly."noveldrama

Selena looked down at his handsome face, but her heart remained unmoved. She was blunt, "Everett, if it were that simple, you could have just been honest with me. No matter my feelings about Yasmine, I'm grateful she saved Mateo. We can cover her treatment and even her future!"

"But you kept things from me. When I asked, you didn't tell the truth. Now that I've found out, you say there's nothing between you two. Can I trust you? Should I trust you again?"

"If there's nothing to hide, why keep it a secret?"

Her last words came out almost as a shout. She wasn't the naive girl she used to be, nor the lovesick person who believed everything he said. She trusted what she saw and felt.

She knew he was hiding something. She knew him well enough to know that he was indifferent to people who didn't matter. If it was just about saving Mateo, and there was no affection between him and Yasmine, he would be confident and straightforward. Clearly, no matter how grand his words, she couldn't be convinced.

Everett fell silent. He had chosen to hide it because their relationship was shaky. Selena's heart hadn't fully returned to him, and she was always ready to leave. She was also prone to jealousy. If she found out that Yasmine was the girl he had been searching for years, the one he intended to marry, and that she had been neglected for three years because of this, it would stir up trouble between them again. He just didn't want their lives disrupted by these messy matters.

The room fell silent. Only the sound of the wind and snow outside could be heard. An adult's silence signifies acceptance. Selena slowly pulled her hand away. Everett's heart raced, and he quickly tightened his grip on her hand, "Selena, I..."

At that moment, a knock on the door interrupted them, and Alex's urgent voice came from outside, "Mr.

Everett, there's an issue at the project site!"

Everett's brow furrowed deeply, but he got up and went to open the door.
