Chapter 8
I rested for half a month after the abortion.
The first thing I did after being discharged was contact my old dance teacher and ask to compete in the upcoming dance
competition.
"But the competitor list is already finalized. Your spot was given to your sister back then."
A bit disappointed, I sighed.
"Is there really no other way?"
"There is one last option-a dance battle!"
When I arrived at the dance studio, the teacher was in the middle of training.
"Follow my moves and go through a round with me. Let's see if your fundamentals have weakened after the months of
pregnancy."
After completing a round of recovery training with the teacher, I finally asked about the dance battle.
"I've already submitted your application. It's scheduled for a week from now. Spend the next few days training properly. Don'tnoveldrama
embarrass me."
It wasn't until the day of the battle that I found out my opponent was Queenie.
She had come with Henry, who looked noticeably haggard.
"Stephanie!"
His eyes brightened when he saw me. He was about to pull his hand away when Queenie clung to him tightly.
"Sis, I didn't expect to see you here. You haven't danced in months. How do you still plan on fighting for a competition spot?"
Not even sparing her a glance, I uttered indifferently, "Don't try to act like
we're close. I'm not your sister."
Queenie was furious, while Henry spoke to me softly. "Stephanie, don't be stubborn anymore. Let's reconcile and go home, okay?
I'll never make you angry again."
I couldn't help but bend over in laughter.
Mocking his pitiful
face, I sneered, "You've really got some nerve. I even lost my child, and you still have the audacity to talk about reconciling? Henry, you're the one person I will never forgive in this lifetime!"
He gave me a glimmer of hope in my darkest days, only to cruelly snuff it out.
Henry staggered backward and nearly dragged Queenie down with him.
Without looking back, I walked away.
Behind me I could feel his burning gaze as he shouted angrily and desperately, "We can have more children in the future! I never did anything to betray you. Just forgive me this once!"
He never betrayed me, yet he couldn't let go of Queenie's hand.
Soon, the competition began.
Queenie and I took turns performing on stage.
After finishing her routine, Queenie. looked
"I
at me smugly and whispered,
ontent belo
the winner. You
a chance."
I saw something suspicious in her eyes.
Just as I was about to press her for details, the host announced that I had won.
Queenie stood on stage with her mouth agape in disbelief.
"Impossible! I made sure everything was taken care of. How could you have won?"
A tall
man stepped onto the stage. His deep voice carried a pleasant timbre. His gaze seemed to sweep over me.
"You thought bribing the judges
would guarantee your victory? I will
no
report this matter. Everyone involved will be punished! And you, Queenie, from this day forward, will haver future in dance. No institution will accept a dancer who bribes judges."
Queenie broke down on the spot.
The man walked up to me and handed me the competition certificate.
I stared at him blankly, and a strange sense of familiarity washed over me.
"Little beggar, are you going to take your competition certificate or not?"
Memories from my childhood surfaced in my mind.
I finally remembered how I knew him. He was the neighbor who used to bring me food.
His name was Matthew Foster.
What do you think?
