Chapter 1967
"What's the big deal? It's just a job, isn't it? You could always get another one. Why put your life at risk over something like this?"
Ellen wrenched herself out of Wilbur's grasp. "I didn't just lose my job. I've lost my whole life along with it. Nothing about me belongs to me, and I've tried so, so hard."
"I think I can help you out there. I'll look for a job with you, and I'll help you with your family. I'll get those who bullied you to apologize to you and give you a normal life."
"What did you say? You're going to make the people who bullied me apologize to me? Hahaha! Can you even do that?" Ellen snorted. She had never been able to escape her father, and she did not think it was something she would ever be able to do.
Yet Wilbur's words gave Ellen a spark of hope. If everything had lost its meaning, the best thing she could hope for was the people who had hurt her before to be punished.
"I can do that. But you need to promise me that you're going to live a long and wonderful life after I help you and take your life seriously. Alright?"
Ellen's eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Wilbur. "I'll give you anything you want if you can change my life for me."
"Alright."
Wilbur looked down at his watch. "How long more until your husband returns?"
"He's not my husband. He's my father."
"Okay, what time does he get back?"
"In the evening. He's not home now."
"Alright. Miss Ellen, I'm hiring you to be my tour guide starting from now. I don't know much about Migorn, so I hope you can show me around since you're a local. Is that alright?"
"Of course."
Wilbur asked for Ellen's bank account, sending her ten thousand dollars for the day's tour guide fee. Ellen teared up again at the sight of the notification on her phone.noveldrama
Following that, she brought Wilbur around Tulu, the capital of Migorn. Under Ellen's lead, Wilbur saw many buildings that had been a part of Migorn's history.
Time ticked by bit by bit, and it was afternoon not long after. The two of them walked past a fancy restaurant that Ellen told Wilbur was already seventy years old. Wilbur entered the restaurant with Ellen before ordering two steaks and some cheese. Ellen stared at the food in front of her and could not help tearing up once
more.
Wilbur scrambled to hand her a napkin, and Ellen wiped at her tears as she sobbed, "I'm sorry, I just thought of the past. My mother brought me here once when I was really young. It's been almost twenty years since then, and this is the second time I'm here."
"I'm sorry."
Ellen lost it, rushing into the bathroom.
After lunch, Wilbur and Ellen came to a cafe. While sipping on their coffee, Ellen told Wilbur everything about her life.
Wilbur was very touched after she was done. "Your father sounds like a good-for- nothing, and your mother was the only one keeping the family afloat for the first twenty years of your life."
What do you think?
