Chapter 420
Carter was the ultimate messenger.
No matter how harsh Miranda's words were, he'd deliver them, word for word.
To Carter, what really mattered was what Miranda wanted. He came from a family that valued tradition, but he honestly didn't care much about the whole "heir to the Hawke family" drama.
Sure, if Miranda went back and crushed all those cousins to take the top spot, Carter would think she was a total badass. He'd probably even get a little reflected glory himself, and he couldn't deny he'd love to see that level of drama up close.
But after spending these past few weeks with Miranda in Virell, he could tell she was doing just fine without any of that mess. She had money, she had status, and she had drive. Honestly, she didn't even seem to care about the Hawke Group.
Even though the Hawke Group was up there on the Fortune 100 and their family's name was all over the world's billionaire lists, Miranda just wasn't impressed.
She'd barely made it upstairs when her phone buzzed with a text from Crystal.
"Handling something. I'll be home late."
Miranda replied, "Alright. Be safe."
She didn't ask what was up. Even though they lived together, Miranda almost never poked her nose into Crystal's business. If Crystal had something to deal with, she just left and came back when it was handled.
As she closed Crystal's chat window, she noticed a bunch of unread messages on WhatsApp. Facebook was blowing up too-99+ notifications.noveldrama
She remembered Elian had borrowed her phone for a bit in the car, and she hadn't checked it since.
GODMOM: "Sweetheart, is it really happening this time?!"
"Are you and Luke REALLY together?"
"Is this the official announcement?!"
"Oh my god, answer me! I'm dying over here! Give your poor mom the tea first, pleeease!!"
Lavinia Lancaster, a.k.a. Godmom, knew Miranda was usually busy, so if it wasn't an emergency, she'd just leave messages instead of calling. But this time- judging by the flood of texts in the past ten minutes-she was desperate for the scoop.
And it wasn't just her. Hannah Lancaster, Caius Lancaster, and Miranda's whole crew of old-money friends from Boston were spamming every group chat.
HANNAH: "Sis! Seriously, which rumor is true?!"
CAIUS: "Congrats... (crying gif)"
In the group chat, the guys were going wild:
"Told you it was Mr. Ashcroft! No way it was Sebastian Everhart!"
"Pay up, I said Miranda's official boyfriend was Mr. Ashcroft, y'all didn't believe me. Cough up the cash!"
"Sebastian played with my feelings, man!"
"Sigh... how did Miranda end up with Mr. Ashcroft of all people..."
"Hey, watch what you say. You know Mr. Ashcroft will come after you if you talk smack."
Hugo was posting the most, but he didn't dare tag Miranda. He just kept spamming crying memes.
Miranda answered Godmom first.
"It's true."
Godmom replied in a split second.
"You really are dating, honey?! I'm so excited!! But wait, do you have to pick just one? Can't you date two at once?!"
Miranda: "...."
If she dated two, Elian would lose his mind. Honestly, one was already more than enough to handle. Two? Not happening.
Sometimes Miranda had to hand it
to Godmom-how she juggled a net
high-powered job and still found
è to play the field was beyond her. '
She'd heard from Marion Smith that Godmom was after some fresh-faced heartthrob and even invested in a reality show to get close to him. But for some reason, as soon as the show aired, the
heartthrob got hit with a scandal. Marion suspected it had something to do with William, but who knew.
After replying to Godmom, Miranda sent Hannah and Caius the same meme.
Then she opened Facebook.
Right at the top was Elian's new photo-and underneath, a flurry shocked and congratulatory from their mutuab
