Jilted Ex-wife Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 22

Chapter 22 Payback

Telicia, too stunned to react, stood there like she was in a dream.

Darya rotated her wrist. That was for the past three years.'

Looking back, Darya realised how pathetic she had been.

She knew Micah was wary of her, but she believed that with time and patience, she could change his mind.

She thought being his wife included the duty of being nice to his family, even though none of them liked or even respected her.

Felicia took her cue from Judy and treated Darya like an unpaid servant.

Darya gave in because she didn't want to put Micah in the difficult position of having to side with either his

sister or his wife.

But in hindsight, she could see it was all just wishful thinking-Micah would never side with her.

Felicia's hand flew to her right cheek, which was rapidly swelling up.

She still couldn't believe the mousy Darya Miller had dared hit her.

The second slap was no less shocking than the first.

Darya went for the left cheek this time.

The woman's face was bloated and red like she'd had too much Botox injection.

"That was for insulting me and Avery just now,' Darya said.

She stood back and admired her work.

'You bitch!' The pain jolted Felicia back to reality.

This wasn't a dream.

Darya Miller had just slapped her. Twice.

Felicia let out an enraged scream and lunged at Darya. 'How dare you!'

Darya ducked out of the way before Felicia's dagger-sharp nails could touch her face.

With a swift kick to Felicia's left kneecap, Darya incapacitated her ex-sister-in- law in a matter of seconds, too fast for Micah and Judy to react.

Besides, Avery subtly shifted his position to block Micah's path.

Felicia collapsed to the floor with a painful grunt.

From an outsider's perspective, it looked as if she was kneeling and kowtowing to Darya. @

Chapter 22 Payback

Darya looked down at Felicia.

Two'slaps were woefully inadequate compensation for the way Felicia treated her

in the past three years- Darya hand-washed relicia's and Judy's clothes, cleaned

the hole, prepared meals, ran errands, and basically did everything a housekeeper, a chef and a maid were supposed to do

She brainwashed herself into believing that it was all for Micah, but the man never looked at her twice or

showed any gratitude.

Darya learned a valuable lesson from the three years of demeaning experience— dignity came before love.

If she didn't love herself, how could she expect anyone else to love her?

Micah stepped around Avery. 'Darya Miller! That's enough! You've gone too far!" Darya smiled mockingly. I've gone too far?'

She looked straight at Micah. 'Mr Cavanaugh, this is nothing compared to what they did to me.

Micah's jaw tightened.

He had no idea what Darya was talking about.

Granted, Felicia was being insulting, but Darya was the one who initiated the physical assault.

He had never seen his ex-wife raise a hand against anyone.

It was no less shocking than seeing Darya toss away thirty million dollars of cash. How could a person change so much in a matter of months?

Avery stood next to Darya, one arm wrapped protectively around her shoulders. 'Mr Cavanaugh, Darya has made it perfectly clear that she doesn't want to have anything more to do with you or your family. I don't know what your sister and mother told you, but they are the ones who came looking for trouble.'

He pre-empted Micah's objection. 'Of course, you don't have to take my word for

it.'

He snapped his fingers.

Mirabelle West, who'd been discreetly observing the altercation from the sidelines, stepped forward.

'Miss West,' Avery said, 'please show Mr Cavanaugh the security footage from earlier.'

'Yes, Mr McAllister.' The manager gestured to a front-desk receptionist, who started tapping away on her tablet. Avery smiled dismissively at Micah. 'The lobby

is covered by sound-enabled cameras. I'm sure you can draw your own conclusion about what happened here. Now, if you'll excuse me, Darya and I have a dinner date.'

Micah didn't want them to leave, of course.

He hadn't gotten to the bottom of this yet.

But his path to Darya was blocked by four thickset security guards, summoned by West.

Darya climbed into the front passenger seat of Avery's silver Mercedes without a backward glance.

The engine roared to life.

The car shot forward, leaving Micah and his family in a plume of dust.

Micah ignored his sister's hysterical screams and his mother's furious curses.

He turned to the manager. 'Miss West, I would like to see the footage."

'Of course, Mr Cavanaugh. If you'll come with me, please.'

'Micah! How can you just let them leave like that?' Judy grabbed her son's' forearm.

Her nails dug into his skin.

She didn't notice. 'That bitch just humiliated us! She hit your sister! Call your bodyguards! We have to teach

the bitch a lesson!'

'That's enough! Micah shook off her hand.

He now saw where Felicia got her foul mouth from.

'But she's cheating on you!' Judy stared at her son, incredulous. 'How can you

allow her to get away with that?'

Micah resisted the urge to massage his temples.

Lately, it seemed that every time he talked to his mother, he would develop a

tension headache.

When had Judy gotten such a short fuse?

Was this a symptom of menopause?

Micah inhaled deeply and tried to keep his voice even. 'Darya and I are no longer

married. She can date whomever she wants.'

He brushed aside the dull ache in his heart as he said that.

It wasn't his habit to discuss his feelings, noveldrama

even with his mother.

Besides, he was a little confused by Judy's anger.

In the past, she'd made it clear plenty of times that Darya wasn't good enough for

him.

Then why was she getting so worked up over Darya's new relationship?

Micah was by no means a modest person, but even he had to admit that Avery was, in all respects, quality husband material.

The man had both looks and brains, not to mention the wealth and the status.

Darya had picked a good one.

She seemed happy, at least happier than when she was married to Micah.

She and Avery had an easy intimacy that Micah never had with her.

That was obvious from the security footage the manager showed him. Micah watched and listened as Judy and Felicia poured scorn on Darya. He finally understood what happened.
