Chapter 2
Chapter 2
We weren't the only ones running though, I saw our neighbors also running in front and behind us.
"Mommy help!" I heard a girl yell and I glanced over my shoulder.
The mum that had carried the child has tripped over a branch and was struggling to get up. The kid
was waiting by her side, impatiently trying to pull her up.
I screamed when I saw one of the people grab the mum by her shoulder and tear the skin on her bare
shoulder open.
The woman cried and tried to run away, only resulting in the wounds getting deeper. The little girl was
crying and I screamed once again when I saw one of the people grabbing the little girls hair and pulling.
I turned my head around and looked in front of me, trying to forget about what I just saw.
Amber was running next to me, her eyes snapping to mine and giving me a quick nod.
"Where are we going to go?" She asked, she whimpered and I realized that she was crying.
"I don't know- HOLY SHIT" A woman jumped in front of me and reached after my face.
"Get away from me" I yelled and ran away from her.
"Are you okay?" I asked Amber.
No answer.
I looked up and in the big crowd of people running everywhere I couldn't find her.
"Amber?" I cried.
"Amber!?" But she was nowhere to be found.
I started crying and saw that people were too busy trying to save themselves to notice me.
I turned around but I couldn't distinguish the people from normal's, since my vision was so blurred from
crying.
I saw a few people run towards the woods on the other side of our town, I guess it was the only way to
get away from here really.
We only had one road, leading out of the city and it would most certainly be pretty occupied, I
reasoned.
My eyes were still searching for Amber's long dark hair.
Me and my twin had very similar facial structure and bodies, but our eye- and hair colours were
completely different. Amber had dark straight hair and light brown almost golden eyes, just like our
biological dad apparently had, while I had inherited my biological mums unruly red locks and green
eyes. I basically looked like the girl from 'Brave'.
It might look cool on her, but I just looked like a troll.
"The zombies are walking towards the school! My child is still there!" I heard a woman yell.
The zombies?
Oh my god.
This was actually an zombie apocalypse.
And that's when it really hit me.
Nothing's gonna be like it used to be.
Where are my parents?
Are they safe?
And Amber?
What about my friends?
The thoughts hit me like bullets and I started to feel dizzy.
Also because I'd run at least 3 kilometers. I was getting closer to the woods and I saw women and men
waiting behind the trees with what looked like guns.
When I looked back, I couldn't see any Zombies running this way, fortunately.
I finally ran past the first trees, immediately feeling safer and took a deep breath.
Where do I go now?
"Mum, where are you?" A familiar voice caught my attention and I turned my head in the direction it
came from.
It was our neighbors little son, Harry. He was only six years and me and Amber used to babysit him.
He was now standing a few meters in front of me, looking around with wet eyes.
"Papa?" He cried out and my heart broke.
I had to help him.
I started running in his direction but before I got to him, a boy around my age lifted him up and put him
in his back.
"Don't worry, little guy. I'll help you" I heard him say. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
I decided to run after the guy, since he seemed so calm and collected.
I didn't recognize him, but I didn't get the chance to look very closely neither, so you never know. But
there's more than one school here, or maybe he went to the local college?
The further we ran, the less people I could see. People ran in different directions and in different
tempos.
When there were only around thirty people in sight, the boy who carried Harry stopped.
"Hold up!" He yelled and people looked at him in confusion.
I grabbed a tree to stop myself from running into him.
People seemed to hesitate, but soon stopped running and looked at him.
"I think we're pretty safe for the moment, but don't you think we should make up a plan?"
People hummed in agreement and I only nodded, still breathing heavily.
I must admit that I was pretty impressed by myself for running so quick and not stopping.
Especially since I'd only gone to the gym once in my life, I'm not even kidding.
People were raising their hands and the boy were acting as the teacher.
It wasn't until now that I saw all of his tattoos and realized that he probably was a little bit older than
me.
Both his arms were covered in tattoos and I could see a few crawling up his neck.
When I looked at his face, I realized his eyes were on me and I gulped. He must have caught me
staring.
When I stood this close I could see that his eyes were light green and that he had a lip ring. He had
chestnut brown hair, rather curly actually, but it was pushed back by a head band.
He was rather attractive I must admit.
He raised an eyebrow at me and I shrugged.
"My aunt has an cabin about 7 kilometers away from here" A man in his early thirties said and I turned
my attention to him.
"Maybe we can stay there for awhile?" I suggested and I could feel the boys eyes at me.
People agreed and the man lead our way.
How he knew it from the middle of the forrest I have no idea, but I didn't complain.
We started to jog after him, people were to tired to run and I wondered what the boys name was. Or
maybe I should say man? I don't know.
Harry was still say on the boys back, but Harry seemed pretty calm and the boy didn't even look tired,
so I guess Harry wasn't very heavy.
After a few minutes I couldn't hold myself.
"Oi, tattoo boy over there!" He turned around and looked at me with an amused look.
"What's your name?" I asked him.
"Carl-Bertil" He answered and I just stared at him.
He laughed and shook his head.
"Lucas" He then said and raised his brow as to say 'what about you?' and I smiled.
"I'm Raven" I jumped over a log and felt super badass and then continued jogging.
"Whaaa" I said quietly, feeling pretty cool.
"I'm Harry" The little boy on Lucas back said.
"And I know you" He said, matter of factly, pointing to me with one arm.
"I used to babysit him" I explained and he nodded in adnoledgtment.
"I'm Peter" The man who was now leading us to his aunts cabin said.
"I'm Oliver" Another guy said and so it kept on until everyone had said their names.
If we weren't in such an awful situation I would have find it amusing.
After another hour we finally arrived outside a rather big cabin, I'd actually like to call it small mansion.
But since it's in the middle of the woods I guess cabin will do.
Peter rang the bell and soon a woman in her late fifties opened the door.
"Peter! I'm so glad to see you're okay, I saw everything on the news and tried to call you! I didn't know
what to do, I just guessed I'd be rather safe here in the middle of the woods" She rambled, she then
looked over at us and stopped talking.
"I see you brought some friends?" She looked at us with curios eyes and I managed to smile.
"We realized we would be stronger together" He told his Aunt, who soon welcomed us all into her
home.
"You can call me Rosa" She said as she closed the door behind us.
We were all stood in the hall, it was rather crowded, seeing as we were over thirty people.
"You don't happen to have any weapons here?" Lucas asked her casually and her eyes widened.
"Uhm, my husband had a gun somewhere, maybe I can find it...? Oh and there's knifes in the kitchen
but that's it" Rosa said, scratching her chin, deep in thought.
Lucas eyes met mine and I walked towards him.
"I'm not sure it will help... Me and my sister saw one in our house with an knife in his head and he was
still moving"
At the mention of my sister, I felt my eyes watering but I managed to keep it together.
I realized I still had my phone and decided it was worth a shot.
"What are you doing?" Lucas asked when he saw me grabbing my phone.
"I'm calling my sister"
After a few beeps it went to voicemail and I gulped down the lump in my throat.
"She isn't answering" I whispered.
"I'm sorry" Lucas said, giving me a sad smile.
I didn't reply, I just looked at the screen.
"What did you see on TV?" I asked Rosa, changing the subject.
"The end of the world"
