Chapter 288
Chapter 288
“Ms. Sorelle, is this what you meant when you said you wanted to work on improving the design of your brand?” Joel exclaimed with a chuckle when he saw that.
Angeline was starting to panic a little after being humiliated twice in a row.
“I'm terribly sorry, Joel! I should've managed my subordinates better!”
I'll have to make things right if I am to have Joel work for my company!
With that in mind, she glared at the employees in the design department and asked sternly, “What do you guys think you're doing?”
The employees all looked a lot more energetic when they saw Angeline.
“Good morning, Ms. Sorelle!” they greeted her in unison.
“What exactly is going on here? I am paying you guys to help generate revenue, not to slack off and create a mess!” Angeline continued with a frown.
The employees were all so scared that none of them dared make a sound.
“Why are you in such a bad mood so early in the morning, Ms. Sorelle? Does taking your anger out on my department make you feel better about yourself?” Steven asked with a disdainful frown as he lifted his legs off the couch.
“Your department?”
Angeline shot Steven an icy-cold glare as she reminded him, “I think you should go through the company's employee handbook again. You and this entire department are beneath me!”
She deliberately emphasized the last two words in order- to crash Steven's ego.
Livid with rage, Steven snapped back at her in a threatening tone, “You... Don't get cocky just yet! You only have three more days before the launch of the matching family outfit!”
He liked using Angeline's work to put pressure on her as she would always concede unconditionally.
This time, however, Angeline dragged Joel over by the ami and replied with a confident smile, “Oh, that reminds me, I need to make an introduction. This is Joel Quinn, a designer I just hired!”
“What? How could you just hire someone into my department without first seeking my opinion?” Steven protested with displeasure written all over his face.
“Why should I? Now, I suggest you stop being so nosy and focus on keeping your job!”
Thanks to her high heels that were over ten centimeters tall, Angeline was able to stare him down at eye level. Her level of confidence was so high that even Steven went pale all of a sudden.
“What's that supposed to mean? You don't have the right to fire me without a valid reason!”
“Don't worry; I would never do something like that! I do, however, have the right to hire new employees as I see fit! Like you, Joel here will be a director of this design department!” Angeline replied with an icy-cold grin.
Steven exploded with anger when he heard that. “You... This is simply unacceptable!”
Angeline let out a chuckle and leaned slightly forward to further assert her dominance.
“You're right. This is indeed unacceptable. Do you know what else is unacceptable? The company's recent performance!”
She then turned toward Joel and waited for his response. Instead of frowning in disdain or annoyance, he looked a little excited as he replied, “That's fine by me. So, where's my desk?”
Feeling relieved that he was supporting her- fully, Angeline pointed at the large desk of the design department's director. “Over there.”
It even had a pen holder that was made of imported sandalwood, which was most likely paid for by the company.
“Mr. Jenkins is busy reading the entertainment news, so he isn't really using that desk anyway. It'd be a waste of resources if we don't put it to good use.”
“All right.”
Joel went along with her suggestion and made his way toward tire desk.
“What horrible taste!” he commented while tearing down the stickers and posters on the wall behind it.
Steven got so mad that he nearly fainted on the spot.
“You... You won't be able to keep that position of yours forever, Angeline! When the time comes, I'll be there to witness your downfall!” he yelled furiously before turning around and storming out of the design department.
Angeline's lips curled into a smile as she watched him leave.
It feels so good to finally get my revenge on Steven! Still, that guy is a cunning one, so having him around is a huge risk factor. Since I don't have a valid reason to fire him, I can only try to keep him suppressed for the time being.
“Um...”
Angeline was snapped out of her train of thought when she felt someone tugging on the hem of her shirt.
Upon lowering her- gaze, she saw Sebastian looking up at her while pointing at his watch.
Huh? What time is it... Oh, it's already eleven! I need to get going, or I'll be late to visit Floretta!
“I'm sorry, Sebastian. I was a little busy earlier. I'll take you there right away!”
Angeline then held Sebastian's hand and walked up to Joel as she said, “I need to get going now. Will you be okay on your own?”
Joel was still busy tidying up the books on Steven's bookshelf at the time. “Yes, I'll be fine. I'm not a kid,” he replied without even looking at her.
“That's good to hear. I've already told my secretary to prepare a set of office supplies for you. Just let her know if you need anything,” Angeline reminded him with a relieved smile.
In contrast with her chatty nature, Joel was a man of few words. He was focused on the documents in hand and appeared to be immersed in his work already.
Angeline didn't seem to mind, though. If anything, she believed that Forrester Group needed hardworking employees like Joel.
After leaving the office building, Angeline drove Sebastian straight to the Golding residence.
Evander had Floretta take a few days off from school as she had caught a cold. That was why Angeline had the chance to come to visit her.
She saw Floretta playing on the swing the moment she arrived at the Golding residence.
Floretta was wearing a pink dress and had her brown hair tied in pigtails, which made her look adorable as her legs swayed back and forth.

Sebastian was so excited that he started smacking the back of the seat even before Angeline stopped the car.
Angeline let out a helpless sigh as she quickly drove into tire garage and parked it properly.
Sebastian then hopped out of the car and ran toward Floretta with his arms outstretched.
“Sebastian!”
Floretta's excited scream was so loud and high-pitched that it nearly raptured Angeline's eardrums.
The two kids then hugged each other- tightly. Angeline's lips curled into a relieved smile when she saw how the pure friendship between them helped improve Sebastian's mood tremendously.
It was as though he had transformed into a completely different person altogether.
Seeing him jump around happily brought a tear to Angeline's eyes as she finally realized what Sebastian needed most.
She was making her way toward the kids when the front door of tire Golding residence opened all of a sudden.
