“You’re doing it again, Perseus said while I worked.
“What am I doing?” Without Aristo, there was an even larger backlog of work to be dealt with. Who even knew where that bastard was?
“You are acting like an asshole,” Perseus said. “And worrying our mate. Isn’t it better to tell her what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?” I wished the mutt would shut up but my wolf was an inner voice that could not be silenced.
“Are you going to pretend you haven’t reverted to being standoffish since we returned? You’re going to make her misunderstand us again and who knows, maybe when she leaves this time, we won’t be able to find her!” He shouted, his patience running thin..
“Darn it!” I pushed away from my desk, feeling my head ache from all the things flying through my mind. at the same time.
I wasn’t even sure why I felt this way but I did. After so many years, I was supposed to get over this insane
feeling but Alpha Blood still put a bad taste on my tongue. The taste became unnoticeable after a while but once I left the land, coming back made the bad taste more pronounced.
“This shouldn’t be happening. This land is mine now. It’s fucking mine! But still, the bad taste could not be washed off. The only thing I could do was bury myself in my work until the taste became unnoticeable.
“You chose them,” Perseus went quiet. “You’re the Alpha now.”
If I let myself go after everything I did to Alpha Boston and his supporters, if I had continued to chase vengeance, I would have destroyed this pack, and burnt everything to the ground but I had to control my bloodlust somehow.
The fear of going rogue, of getting my revenge and having nothing else to live for, made me take on the duties of this pack. The work that went into leading a pack this large did not leave me with any time to engage my bloodlust.
But this pack – this land – it had taken so much from me.
“Cahir, this is our land now,” Perseus reminded me. I didn’t forget. I was now tied to these people, some of which had been part of those that destroyed my home pack.
The warriors that marched with Alpha Boston to level my pack to the ground had not retired and they were not close to the age of retirement. Yes, a lot of them left the pack when I took over, but others had their roots too deep in Alpha Blood to leave. There were men and women who’d taken from me and now, they were under my protection.
It wasn’t often that I thought of this – I forced myself to shove it to the back of my mind because thinking of it made me angry and I didn’t need to be angry- anger messed with my control and I didn’t need that.
“I know this is my land!” I almost bellowed but then I sighed. “This feeling will pass in a few days. Give it
Test.”
–
This it was one of the reasons I didn’t leave my pack often. Coming back was always hectic to the point where it tampered with my control.
“We have a mate now, and she’s worried.”
I would never forget the goddess did me dirty. ver wanted a mate but she shoved Sihana into my path. The same goddess who watched Alpha Boston torture me for years until I almost lost my last shred of sanity. My ancestors must have offended her for her to be such a bitch to me.
“Don’t blaspheme the goddess,” Perseus warned. “We can’t understand her ways but it doesn’t mean she hasn’t been looking out for us all this time. You’re the Alpha now, remember that. Perseus shut me out after that but I didn’t care.
I
gave my full attention to work after that, working well into the night. I was still working when I felt the telltale signs of someone trying to open a mind link with me. Only a few people in this pack had the capacity to open a direct mind link with me and I knew who this was before it was fully open.
“I told you she’s worried,” Perseus grumbled.
“Cahir?” Her cool voice washed over me and silenced the demons in my head. “Where are you? It’s past midnight.” A sharp sting pierced my heart. Had she stayed awake waiting for me?
“I still have a lot of work to complete, love. I’m busy but I’ll return when I make tangible progress through this pile. Sleep well, love. I shut the mind link.
“Cahir Armani!” Perseus growled. “That was rude! Call her now!”
There was no reason for me to burden her with the demons I fought. She didn’t have to see me when I was feeling so low. I didn’t have the words to explain how I felt and I feared I would mess things up if I opened my mouth at this point
…Now you see I am not useless.
Those words had me reaching for my phone to place a call across to her but I halted. I didn’t want her feeling down because of me. I didn’t want her to misunderstand my intentions toward her or for her to feel as if I shut her out because I had no regard for her,
Sihana was good and pure – everything I was not. She didn’t deserve to be burdened with things outside of human control. No one could help me with the way I felt about Alpha Blood pack and an Alpha coming out to say he hated his pack must be taboo.
‘Have some faith in her, you asshole. Goddess, you’re supposed to be more sensible than me? Nah, you’re quite foolish. With that scathing insult. Perseus went quiet, silently stewing.
Whatever he said, I’d be fine in a few days, then I could comfortably be around my mate without her seeing through the façade I put on about being fine.
“Cahir Armani.” My eyes snapped up from my computer to see Sihana Asena staring down at me with ant intensity I’d never seen in her eyes before.
What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Good morning to you too.” I looked at the clock beside me. It was already nine a.m.

“Good morning. What are you doing here?” My wolf perked up at the appearance of his mate.

How did time fly so fast? It was midnight the last time checked the clock and now, morning. I worked all night but I still had a lot of work to complete. I now had to do the work of a Beta and Alpha all at the same time and I could not forget the punishment for Sebastin who I’d learnt had locked himself up in the dungeons.
“What am I doing here? My mate crossed her arms, refusing to sit. “Have you been working all night?” She asked.
“Indeed. As I said, there is a lot of work to be done now that Aristo isn’t ”
“Cahir, you just returned from a vacation!” There were dark circles around her eyes as she glared down at me. “You couldn’t even take a bath and shut your eyes for a minute before flying off to work?”
“I can rest after I have done my duties. Now, why are you here?” I leaned back in my seat, exhaustion creeping up on me. Work consumed me to the point where I didn’t know I had been working for so long but now that she mentioned it, I felt fatigued.
“Why am I here?” She pursed her lips. “Well, I contacted Aristo. He’ll be back and ready to work in an hour
“I didn’t ask you to do that.” I growled.
“You don’t need to ask me! I’m your Luna. You’re my mate and I’m not going to let you dismiss me as you’ve always done. If you’re not goi
