Chapter 16 Blood Roses
While Jamie went to work during the day, I went out to nearby restaurants along the street to look for a job.
Since I couldn’t go back to the company, I was willing to do anything, even washing dishes. I didn’t believe Mr. Galer could control everything.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
My efforts were not in vain. I secured a job as a waitress in a newly opened coffee shop.
I eagerly shared this good news with Jamie. His voice on the other end of the phone sounded weak, and I thought it might be a bad signal, so I didn’t pay much attention.
He expressed happiness for me and suggested celebrating together when he got back home in the evening.
That night, I lit candles and prepared steamed fish, Jamie’s favorite.
I sat at the dining table, staring at the flame of the white candle until it went out. However, my beloved man didn’t return.
I stood up, absentmindedly knocking over the vase on the table.
The nearly withered roses scattered on the floor, conveying a message that things were not going well.
For three days, I repeatedly called Jamie’s number, but the phone only played a cold automated message.
“The user you are trying to reach is currently unreachable.”
On my way to the police station, I received a WeChat message from Jamie.
“We’re not suitable for each other. Let’s break up, and please don’t look for me.”
At that moment, I suddenly realized I couldn’t contact anyone related to Jamie because he was an orphan.
I couldn’t believe those words came from him. I began frantically searching, visiting all the places we had been to.
All in vain.
Did he just disappear into thin air?
I still went to the police station, but the police, after looking at the WeChat message, considered it a simple breakup between lovers and didn’t file a report.
I returned to being alone, and the hollow nights became even more tormenting than before.
During the day, I worked at the coffee shop to survive, and at night, I waited by the apartment door, hoping it would open again and reveal Jamie’s warm smile.
