Chapter 263
Jessica couldn't stop Herbert. Frantically, she rushed back to unplug her phone and dialed his number, only to have the call cut off. She sent him message after message in a panic.
Why did you leave so suddenly?
Are you going to see Timothy?
Don't you dare!
Herbert?! If you go, I'll be furious!
She didn't want Herbert to get into a fight with Timothy. She could handle the divorce through legal channels; the last thing she wanted was for Herbert to get himself into trouble on her behalf.
Vince hurried over, worry written all over his face. "Jessica, what happened? What did you just say to him?"noveldrama
Fumbling with her phone, Jessica quickly typed out a message to show him.
"Mr. Zimmerman, can you give me Marquis's business card? I'll organize the evidence I have tonight and send it directly to him. Right now, I need to find Herbert-I'm worried he'll do something reckless.”
The cold fury Herbert had shown just now reminded her so much of his teenage years. Back then, whenever someone insulted his mother, he'd always jump headlong into a fight.
He might look calm and refined these days, especially now that he was a doctor; but beneath that composed exterior, the volatility was still there, simmering just below the surface.
"I'm coming with you," Vince said without hesitation.
Jessica nodded.
Vince told Marquis to head home for now, then led Jessica out to his car. As they drove, Jessica kept sending Herbert texts, calling him over and over, but he never answered.
Her worry twisted her features into a tight knot. She clutched her phone, typing, calling anything to reach him.
But there was nothing. No reply.
Seeing how frantic she was, Vince pulled the car to the side of the road.
"Jessy, what's going on?"
Jessica typed out a message for him to read With Herbert's temper, I'm afraid he'll go looking for Timothy and pick a fight. That won't end well for him. He's the younger son of the Wheeler family. Last time, when he helped me find a divorce lawyer and Timothy found out, Timothy retaliated against the Wheeler Group!"
Vince pressed his lips together, the realization dawning that there was more between Jessica and Herbert than he'd thought.
This Herbert clearly cared deeply about her. Jessica must have explained about Timothy's emotional affair using sign language-no wonder Herbert was so angry.
If that's the case, Herbert must be on his way to see Timothy.
"Don't worry, Jessy. If Herbert's going after Timothy, he'll head straight to the Lawson Group. I'll take you there now-he can't be far ahead. If I drive fast, we might just catch up."
"Thank you," Jessica replied, her gratitude sincere.
Meanwhile, after leaving the
hospital, Timothy had sought out the best jewelry restorer in Riverside
City. The ten pearls-badly
worn needed to be repaired and
restrung. Once he'd agreed on a plan with the craftsman, Timothy
returned to the Lawson Group, his mood foul as ever.
Jessica's nerve seemed to grow by the day. Now she was outright challenging his limits.
He pulled up to his reserved parking spot outside the Lawson Group's headquarters.
At that moment, Herbert's car arrived as well.
But Herbert had already taken a golf club from his trunk, setting it on the front seat beside him. Now, without hesitation, he opened the car door with one hand and grabbed the golf club with the other, emerging from the car in one smooth movement.
He was ready to storm into Timothy's office and settle the score.
But just then, he caught sight of Timothy stepping out of his own car.
Without a word, Herbert strode across the lot, his steps forceful, golf club in hand.
Timothy closed his car door and looked up, eyes narrowing as he saw Herbert approaching-rage etched across his face, golf club raised in his grip.
What do you think?
