Chapter 1403
Chapter 1403:
The photos revealed a group of rough-looking kids, standing in the middle of a narrow alley, baseball bats and metal rods gripped tightly in their hands. Their leader stood at the front, his hair dyed an alarming shade of red, styled into a flashy perm that screamed rebellion. He looked every bit the troublemaker.
If not for the face staring back at her, Lilyana would have never believed it. But there was no mistake. The leader was none other than her well-mannered, supposedly innocent younger brother.
“Collier… What exactly is going on? Your hair—it looks completely normal now. And your clothes…”
She trailed off, unable to find the words to express her utter disbelief.
Collier was growing fast, already standing taller than most kids his age. Though still in elementary school, his height and mature demeanor made it easy for strangers to mistake him for someone much older.
Collier’s fingers clenched slightly as he locked eyes with Madisyn. “Mom, where did you get these photos?”
Madisyn lifted her gaze, her expression unreadable as she met his eyes. “Your homeroom teacher called me today.”
Collier stiffened, realizing he had no choice but to tell the truth. He let out a slow breath, bracing himself before sitting up straighter.
“It all started about a week ago. That day at lunch, I saw some of my classmates getting shaken down for their lunch money by some punk from outside the school. They barely had enough to eat as it was, and this guy wasn’t just making threats—he was about to throw punches. I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing, so I stepped in. Then, I realized this wasn’t just a one-time thing. This had been going on for a while. Someone had to put a stop to it.”
His voice gained energy as he continued, his hands gesturing animatedly. “So, I got a few guys together, and we started handling things our own way. Every time that bully showed up, we’d rough him up a little—enough to make sure he never wanted to come back.”
When Collier finished, Madisyn and Lilyana exchanged glances, their emotions a tangle of surprise and concern.
Collier scratched his head, a bit thrown by their silence. “Mom? Lilyana? Why are you looking at me like that? I’m telling the truth! That guy doesn’t come near the school anymore. He’s too scared to mess with anyone now.”
Neither Madisyn nor Lilyana had expected this to be the reason behind Collier’s recent behavior.
Madisyn exhaled slowly. “Son, I know you are a kind boy, but if you wanted to stop the bullying, wouldn’t it have made more sense to let the school or even the security guards handle it? Instead, you’ve been skipping class, getting into fights, and putting yourself in trouble. This isn’t just about you—it’s affecting your teachers, the school, and your studies. When I found out, I was really worried.”
Collier pressed his lips together, his usual bravado dimming. “I’m sorry, Mom,” he admitted. “I know I shouldn’t have skipped class. But I couldn’t just sit back and watch my classmates get pushed around. I didn’t want anyone else to fight my battles for me. And don’t worry about my studies. I already know everything in the textbooks anyway.”
Hearing that, Madisyn let out a quiet sigh, feeling torn.
What Collier had done was undeniably reckless, but his actions had come from a sense of justice, the kind only a young and headstrong boy could have. She couldn’t outright scold him, but she also couldn’t just let it slide.
