small charm from his robe, "Nina, I haven't been well lately. I just heard about you. After the surgery, make sure Orion wears this. It's a charm I once prayed over for protection."
"Thank you," Nina said politely as she accepted it.
Micah leaned in to explain, "He was one of my father's old comrades and a close friend."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Kerr," she said with a respectful nod.
After giving the gift, Mr. Kerr left, but Nash remained cautious.
Leaning in, he whispered to Nina, "I want to check this out before you give it to Orion." Nash's concern was valid. Micah overheard but did not object. It was better to be safe.
Nash's instincts were right. When he inspected the charm, he found è something hidden inside. The charm had a silver clasp, and when opened, a-sily it revealed a small stash of white powder.
The discovery instantly put Nash on high alert.
