Chapter 1693
Chapter 1693:
Aldrich rubbed his forehead, resolved to improve. He had to try harder next time!
Robbie, observing their banter, rolled his eyes and muttered, “Think Rhys will invite us to join them?”
Both Aldrich and Alina looked at Robbie, responding in unison, “Keep dreaming.”
Robbie’s face fell. He knew they’d only get a taste of Rhys’ cooking if Harlee extended an invitation.
With a sigh, Robbie walked past Cillian, his expression forlorn, until Cillian suddenly grabbed his wrist. Robbie looked up in surprise.
“What?”
“Come with me.”
Without another word, Cillian led Robbie away.
Aldrich and Alina exchanged a glance, sensing something amiss.
After dinner, Rhys returned to his desk to resume his work, while Harlee lounged on a beanbag, absorbed in her video games.
When Rhys finally looked up from his paperwork, Harlee was stretching, having just woken from a nap.
Checking her phone, Harlee noted it was past midnight.
Harlee paused, then turned lazily toward Rhys and asked with a playful smirk, “Not planning to sleep tonight?”
Before Rhys could reply, Harlee added, “In that case, you can spend the night in the study.”
If Rhys was so fond of using meals as a lure, he might as well keep company with his work overnight.

Having spent last night waiting for Rhys to pull off the seductive trick in vain, Harlee was already seething and expected him to grasp her subtle hint tonight. Yet, there Rhys sat, still engrossed in his work.noveldrama
Without giving him a chance to respond, Harlee turned on her heel, left the study, and firmly locked the door behind her.
The sound of the door shutting reverberated through the room. Rhys watched her leave, shaking his head with a mixture of affection and resignation. Great. Not only had he failed to soothe Harlee, but he had also earned himself a night alone in the study.
The next morning at Happer Family Manor, Nola slowly opened her eyes and stiffly sat up in bed. As she moved her legs, a sharp pain shot through her knees, and her eyes filled with intense hatred. Harlee and Errol would pay for this, even if it cost her life!
Just as Nola was about to rise, the door burst open, and Errol, followed by Moshe, entered.
Previously, Nola would have ordered them out, but now she needed Errol to confront Harlee, so she restrained herself, turning her face away to show her anger. If not for Errol’s threats regarding the acting head position of the Happer family, she would never have humbled herself before Harlee, much less knelt for three hours, stripping herself of all dignity.
Nola’s disdain for Errol had evolved into deep-seated hatred, wishing to see him suffer as she had. The prospect of enduring further humiliation for the family head position only deepened Nola’s resentment.
Errol approached and sat by her bed, his tone soothing.
“Nola, I know this has been hard on you, but hang in there. My plan is taking shape. In just three months, you’ll have your chance against Harlee.”
He gently touched her head, his voice laden with compassion.
“You’ve been ill since kneeling by the sea for three hours and catching a cold. Once you’re better, I’ll host a banquet to officially name you as the acting head of the Happer family.”
Nola’s face softened slightly at his words, but her mouth twisted into a sneer. Was this supposed to be a consolation after the torment? Ha. She was no longer the naive and gullible Nola he once knew.
Turning to face Errol squarely, her gaze was piercing.
