Chapter 270
"Janice!"
At the factory gate, Simon stood sharply dressed, looking nothing like a man who had gone bankrupt. He waved at Janice with a bright, almost exaggerated smile while holding something in his hand.
Janice frowned and shot her bodyguards a look.
"Don't stop me! I just came to bring Janice something."
His loud voice turned heads, drawing the attention of passersby.
Janice sighed. "What do you want?"
"Janice, this is from your favorite bakery. I got up early to wait in line for it, and it's still warm. Try it?"
But the sight of that familiar bread didn't stir any nostalgia in Janice, only disgust. All it did was remind her of how foolish she had been back then. She chuckled. "You think I love this bread?"
Taking the package from his hand, she unwrapped it, tore off a piece, and shoved it straight into Simon's mouth without hesitation.
Audrey, watching from the side, was stunned. The way she did it... didn't look like she was feeding someone she liked.
Simon was just as caught off guard, but he forced himself to chew, struggling with the dry, dense texture. It was hard to swallow.noveldrama
"Does it taste good?" Janice asked. "Can you even get it down?"
The bread was anything but soft. It was tough, dry, and a chore to chew. Back then, she had eaten it simply because it was cheap and filling. They had been poor. She had lied to Simon, saying she loved it, and he had actually believed her.
Janice tossed the rest of the bread at his feet, pulled her hand back, and stepped away.
"Don't bring things like this to me again. I'm not stupid. I'm not going to leave a good life behind just to go back to those miserable days when I worked myself to the bone and still wasn't respected."
Simon opened his mouth to speak, but Janice cut him off immediately. "You can think I'm vain if you want. I don't care. After all, who works their ass off just to keep suffering? Now, take your cheap bread and get out of here."
She turned to the security guards employed by the factory. "From now on, this man is not allowed near the factory entrance."
The guards nodded without hesitation.
"Janice, please..." Simon no longer cared about saving his reputation. "I know my mistakes now. I took you for granted back then, and I didn't cherish you the way I should have. Can't you give me a chance to make it up to you?
"Edward isn't your happy ending! A guy like him will marry someone who truly matches him, someone with the right family background. But you and me? We're both ordinary people! How do you expect to survive in their world? Don't be a fool and waste your time just to pave the way for some other woman!"
The moment he started badmouthing their boss, the guards didn't hesitate and
grabbed him. They immediately dragged him away.
Audrey, who had been holding back,
finally snapped, "You have no shame, do you? You can't have so now you're trying to tear her down What kind of pathetic excuse for a man are you? Even a guard dog knows it has to fight to defend its territory, but you? All you do is run your mouth, thinking that just by badmouthing someone, you'll magically get what you want.
"Who the hell do you think you are? Some kind of god? Do your words make reality bend to your will? You're a selfish, heartless prick and a complete failure. The only thing you've got going for you is that overinflated ego of yours. What a joke. Anyone would have to be blind to have ever been with you."
Simon's face twisted with rage, turning an ugly shade of red. "Who the hell do you think you are to talk to me like that? You don't know shit about us!"
"Oh, please. Everyone knows about you two. I'm brand new here, and even I know. What do you even have to offer? You're average-looking, you've got a bunch of shady women circling you, and you're flat broke. The only thing you do have is that loud mouth of yours.
"What, exactly, is anyone supposed to see in you? Wait... Are you hoping she'd pick you because you can't have kids?"
Couldn't have kids?
The security guards immediately perked up.
Simon's face went beet red. How the hell did everyone know? Who leaked it? It had to be Elsie! Or maybe that other woman! Those damn women!
"No, Janice! It's not like that! I'm not sick... Someone did this to me! It's treatable!" Simon scrambled to explain.
Janice raised an eyebrow, then smiled sweetly. "Forget it. I'd actually like to have kids someday."
What do you think?
