Back in Time: Unshackling From Love (Mikayla Davidson)

Chapter 38

Chapter 38

The phone was on speaker. Soon, Wanda’s sad voice echoed from the other end.

“Kay, are you going to ignore me just because you’re angry with Jerome?”

Mikayla couldn’t bear hearing Wanda’s tone.

She hurriedly said, “Of course, I would love to accompany you, Grandma.”

“Then, it’s settled. Tomorrow, I’ll have the driver pick you both up!”

Without waiting for Mikayla to respond, Wanda had already ended the call. Her tone was noticeably brighter.

Mikayla was speechless.

The next day, Mikayla received a call from the driver.

When she approached the car and opened the door, she saw Jerome sitting in the back

seat.

He was wearing a black suit, engrossed in work on his computer.

He appeared cold and arrogant, like a cover model for a financial magazine.

Jerome glanced at her indifferently when he heard her open the door. He then resumed his work on the computer.

Mikayla thought he was a bastard. He had his own driver, yet he insisted on using

Wanda’s.

Mikayla didn’t want to sit with him. She closed the door and waited for the passenger

seat.

“Stop making a fuss. Grandma is waiting,” Jerome said with a slightly stern tone as he

sensed her intention.

He was clearly focused on the computer. How did he know what she was thinking?

Mikayla caught the driver staring at her and she thought she was behaving somewhat childishly. She pouted and eventually took the back seat.

On the way, Mikayla kept scrolling through her phone. She didn’t say a word to Jerome.

Jerome continued to concentrate on his computer, too.

A while later, the driver suddenly slammed the brakes. It caused Mikayla to lunge forward. She nearly hit her forehead against the front seat.

Jerome reached out and pulled Mikayla, causing her to fall into his arms.

“Mr. Miller, Mrs. Miller, I’m so sorry. Someone just cut into our lane!” the driver apologized nervously.

Jerome remained silent while Mikayla was still leaning against his chest.

Today, she wore a short–sleeved apricot–colored blouse with a ruffled collar. From his

angle, he could see her delicate and fair collarbone and a hint of her chest.

“What are you looking at?”

Mikayla shrugged his hand away and opened her eyes wide.

Jerome coldly glanced at her.

“You chose to dress like this. Why are you afraid of people staring at you?”

Mikayla was puzzled.

Her outfit was perfectly normal. She didn’t expose her cleavage or her back. She couldn’t understand why he made it sound as though it was her fault.

“People with dirty minds see everything as dirty,” Mikayla retorted.

Jerome had to admit defeat.

“Mikayla, it seems like you’ve completely let yourself go now. You don’t even bother to

act ladylike.”

“I never thought you would think I looked ladylike,” Mikayla mocked.

“I thought you always think I’m terrible and have no good traits.”

Jerome responded coldly, “I’m not sure you have any good traits. But your talent for a sharp tongue is truly unmatched.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment. Thank you!”

Jerome was stunned. He didn’t argue further with Mikayla.

He picked up his computer and said, “Your proposal has been submitted to Bernhal. The

executives did some screening and decided to use your proposal.”

Mikayla didn’t expect Jerome to actually send her proposal to Bernhal.

“Didn’t you understand what I said yesterday? I have no interest in joining Berphal. You can’t use my proposal without my consent!”

Jerome looked at the computer and said softly, “The bonus is one million dollars.”
