Chapter 236
Chapter 236 ASHER *| don’t think this is a good idea,” Silas uttered before | had the chance to say a word.
Kane’s violet eyes flashed and his eyebrows creased together in confusion. “Oh? And what would you suggest we do. Silas I’m not hearing you brainstorm any helpful ideas. Please, the floor is all yours. Offer up something useful.”
Silas’ demeanor grew defensive and his lips drew into a thin line. When he didn’t reply within a second or two, Kane scoffed in his direction.
“That’s what | thought,” my stepbrother remarked and then he smirked. “You have nothing in mind, do you, Moses?” He took care to emphasize Silas’ surname, and it was spat with venom right back at the Beta. | knew Silas didn’t trust Kane,
my stepbrother fully trust Silas. The two men stared at one another silently, and tension hung in the air. | allowed this to go on for a minute, and then | cleared my throat and stepped between them.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Enough,” | said in a low and warning voice, and | held my hands up in an attempt to de-escalate things before they got intense. “Don't behave like a children. There’s too much going on to act this way.”
Silas took a step back, but his mouth remained curled into a snarl
Kane rolled his eyes and then glanced at the door. “If we’re done here, I’m going to go talk to our soldier. Time is of the essence, brother. We can’t hesitate any longer.
He offered me a small bow of respect but didn’t wait for my dismissal to leave. While | was slightly annoyed by this, | knew he had a good point. Time was indeed limited and we needed to enact the plan as soon as possible.
Silas stared at the door, and once he was certain we were alone, his expression softened.
“Asher, | don’t think this is a good idea,” he reiterated to me quietly. “I know he’s your brother, but | don’t think he should play the part of king. What if he betrays us or plays some kind of trick-
“And what kind of trick could he play?” | questioned my Beta.
Silas didn’t answer at first, and then he released a soft sigh “I don’t know. But | think i it's worth keeping in mind that Kane’s mother, Mistress Margaret, seems to have an unusual relationship with my father. Considering what my father is doing. | think we need to be cautious about Kane. He seems loyal at present, but things could change.”
Though his words seemed a touch harsh and biased, | knew what he meant. If Margaret pressed a knife against my chest, would Kane be able to kill her?
But that wasn’t a question | could concern myself with right now. We needed Kane for the job and | had to trust him.
Thank you for your words,” | said, and | reached out and grasped the Beta’s shoulder. “I hear you and appreciate your concern, Silas. I'll handle this and keep an eye on him to the best of my ability. For now, we follow through with the plan
Silas bowed his head in respect and that was that
Though | still wasn’t certam about all of this, | had to trust Kane had my best interests at heart. | had no other choice. He was my brother after all, and | needed as many allies as possible to survive this coup

Aller my conversation will files, we begati our preparation for the next day. We were going to visit the Sky Pride Pack Vitonow. They scie a Park that

wolves preferred the privacy of their own region and rarely left the hills. In all of my father’s years as king, he’d never mentioned meeting a wolf of Sky Pride.
| hoped that fact would bode well, but it was difficult to say for certain. The Alphas of Wegalla were all so different from one another that it was hard to predict how our diplomatic meetings would go.
We began the first part of the journey later that day. After we picked up our belongings, we hiked through the woods until we reached the foot of the mountains. As the sun set and the woods were hathed in the violet haze of twilight, we stopped for the night and made camp
There was a small inn close to the hills, but we decided it was too risky to stay there, even if it was just for a single night We wanted to remain as inconspicuous as possible to prevent the Sky Pride wolves from hearing of our presence too early. Camping also allowed us to avoid any assassins who would likely have their eyes on places like the inn.
So, we made camps underneath an enormous pine tree. Kane stayed in the King’s camp, meanwhile Silas decided to conduct the night's watch with another soldier.
| stayed in the soldier’s camp, and though | had a tent to myself. | couldn’t really sleep that night. Everything we’d endured. recently swirled around in my mind, along with thoughts of Cassandra, | didn’t know if she was alright, and | had to make great efforts to not think about going to the North to look for her.
But at the end of the day. | missed my mate dearly. | wanted to kiss her. | wanted to wrap my arms around her petite frame and pull her close. | wanted to hold her hands and never let them go again.
The memory of her beautiful green eyes and the sweet smell of her long hair lulled me to rest. | managed to get some sleep. but it didn’t last all that long.
It was around midnight when | heard a sudden noise. It wasn’t loud, but on a night as silent as this, it was clear. | sat straight up in my tent.
Something must have happened. Was Silas still out there?
| peered out into the night and was surprised to see that no one else had roused from the sudden sound. Most of the soldiers seemed to be in deep sleep, which was abnormal.
| stepped out of my tent and carefully walked out of the canip. | took slow, furtive steps, but my timid pace came to a sudden halt when | found Silas lying on the ground.
“Silas!” | uttered, and | ran to the Beta at once. When he didn’t rouse, | bent down to take his pulse. It was faint, and his chest rose and fell ever so slightly. | tried to wake him, but he didn’t react to my efforts. | suddenly heard the noise again and realized it was coming from the King’s camp.
“I'll be back,” | assured Silas’ unconscious frame quietly, and then | shifted into my wolf form. | wasn’t sure what | was about to face, but | would be better suited to handle it with my razor-sharp claws.
| carefully approached the camp, and just as | arrived, a sudden whimper reached my cars, followed by a loud groan. | couldn't wait any longer, | rushed into the camp at full speed, and when | did, | was greeted by a gruesome sight

The ground was soaked with blood Kane was on the ground, clubs hing his thigh, and when he writhed in pain. | noticed a stab pouted in his thigh
Ishulled back at onor and offered a cry of disbelietas 1 to my brother “Kane!”
Ab Kane replied weakly and la gestured to the right Not the away from him was a woman lying on the ground She was as pole as the moon and had a sysings slicking out of her ear It appeared if she had passed out
.
“What happened?” 1 demanded as | knelt down to Kane’s level “Are you alright?”
My stepbrother nodded. “I’m alright. | stabbed myself, so the wound isn’t very severe.”
| frowned as confusion flooded through me. Why would you do that? | don’t understand.”
The woman is a sorceress,” Kane explained, and he gestured arthe unconscious woman, “She used magic to lull Silas and the other soldiers to sleep. | stabbed myself just to stay conscious.”
