A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 19: Being Robbed.

Chapter 19: Being Robbed.

Amelia was still in shock, even after the day’s work was over.

When she helped James wear his shirt, she was tempted to bury her nose in his chest and sniff him.

His singlet, his everything smelled so nice! She couldn’t stop wondering how he smelled so nice, and he was yet to be eaten up by people.

She hung her tote bag on her shoulders and waited for James to leave the office, before she headed home.

James walked out of the office and met Amelia standing at her desk.

“What are you waiting for?” He asked, and she raised her head to look at him.

“I’m waiting for you, sir. I didn’t want to leave until you left.”

James raised his eyebrows and exhaled softly. He tucked his hands in his pockets and walked to the elevator.

She hurried behind him and they both waited for the elevator to give way to them.

For some reasons that Amelia wasn't sure about, she felt quite nervous. Maybe because she was going to stand in the same elevator with James at the same time.

The elevator opened, and James first stepped in. He looked at Amelia, who didn’t make an attempt to move.

“What are you doing?” He asked, and she gulped.

“I… I think I forgot something. You can go ahead, sir. I’ll be right behind you.”

Amelia hurried back to her desk, breathing hard.

The elevator was going to travel to the main door for like five minutes. She wasn’t ready to stand in the same elevator with her boss for five minutes.

‘It will be so awkward!’

She waited for some minutes and then walked back to the elevator. To her great surprise, she met James still standing in the elevator.

‘Is he waiting for me?!’ She screamed in her head.

“Get in already. I’m tired of stopping the elevator from closing up.”

Amelia blinked severally and shuffled into the elevator. ‘Why did he wait?!’

She smiled faintly and lowered her head as the elevator closed up. They began to move, and Amelia moved to the extreme end of the elevator.

James stood not so far from the door and rested on the walls of the elevator.

He looked at Amelia and noticed she was glued to the other end of the elevator. She couldn’t even look up.

He scoffed and looked away. He looked at his wristwatch and saw it was past seven already.

“Are you going to get the cellphone today? You must resume with it tomorrow, okay?”

Amelia raised her head and nodded. “I’m heading to the store now, sir. I’ll resume with it tomorrow.”

“Great. Come closer.”

Amelia’s breath ceased after hearing his order. ‘Come closer? Why?! Why do I have to come closer?!’

She bounced her head slowly and dragged her feet on the floor as she moved closer to him. All this while, her head was bowed.

She kept about two meters away from him and looked at him.

“I’m here, sir,” She said and quickly lowered her head.

“No, you are not. Come closer. I didn’t say keep a distance from me.”

He grabbed her hand and pulled her closer. Amelia’s eyes popped open as she slightly hit her head on his chest.

“Oh God, I’m so sorry, Mr. James. I tried to gain balance but…”

“I need paper and a pen. Get me one.” James let go of her hand and stretched his hands to her.

“Oh, Paper and pen. I have one.”

Amelia quickly searched for what he had asked for in her bag. She was still standing a few inches away from him.

She picked up her mini-jotter and tore a page from it. She also picked the pen and stretched both of them to him.

He took only the pen from her and held her other hand that had the paper in it.

“Place it well. I want to write something.”

Amelia looked at his face in confusion, but when she saw the cold expression on his face, she immediately complied.

She placed the paper on her palm and let him write on her palm. James held her wrist with his left hand, as he wrote on the paper with his right hand.

He finished writing and dropped the pen on the paper. “Move back. I’m done.”

Amelia hurriedly moved back to where she stood initially and looked at what he had written on the paper.

It was a phone number. Under it he wrote boldly; “Call me immediately you get the phone.”

She smiled faintly and looked at him, but he wasn’t looking at her anymore. The elevator finally opened, and he stepped out. She hurriedly followed behind him.

They got out of the company and that was when Amelia knew it was dark outside already.

‘Thank God my house is near the company now. What would I have done if I was still living in my uncle’s house?’ She thought.

James headed to his car and his driver opened the door for him. Amelia watched him as he stepped into the car.

Deep down, she wanted him to give her a lift to where she was going to get the phone because she was scared, but she dared not ask him.

In the twinkle of an eye, James zoomed off from her presence, and she heaved a loud sigh.

“Looks like you are on my own, Amelia,” She mumbled and began to walk down the street.

James' phone began to ring, and he pulled it out from his breast pocket. It was Charles calling.

“Hello, Dad. I’m on my way already. I got your message.”

“Great! I want you to get home before your mother comes back from the market. She is so excited. She can’t wait to see you.”

“I can’t wait to see her too. I’ll see you soon.” He smiled.

He hung up the call and looked at the driver. “Drive faster. I can’t get home late,” He said, and his driver accelerated almost immediately.

Amelia got to the store and met with the cashier. He told her the cellphone available and their price ranges.

Amelia checked the cash with her and decided to get an IPhone 6S Plus. She needed money for other things, and she didn’t want to ask her uncle for money anytime soon.

He had given her so much cash when she got to her new apartment. She couldn’t bother him for the meantime.

The cashier helped her pack up the phone, and Amelia paid her a sum of $121.

“Can I get rid of the carton now? I need to save a phone number.”

“Sure. I can help you with that.”

The cashier helped Amelia get rid of the carton, helped her switch on the phone and gave it to her.

“You should charge it when you get home. But you can still save the number.” Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

“Thank you.“ Amelia grinned widely and walked out of the store.

She walked down the street and pulled out the paper James had written on. She clicked on her dialer and began to input his phone number.

‘What will I use to save you?’ She asked herself. All this while, her head was buried in her phone.

“Mr. James would do.”

She saved his contact, and as soon as she saved it, she threw the phone in her bag and looked up.

She furrowed her brows when she noticed where she was wasn’t anywhere familiar. She missed the road when she was on her phone.

“Where the hell am I?”

It was like a Close, but not just any Close, it looked like a dangerous one. It was awkwardly dark and scary.

“My street is the next one. How did I make such a stupid mistake?” She felt goosebumps grow all over her body.

She rubbed her hands and hurriedly turned to hit the main road. As she turned, she collided with someone.

“Oh, my… I’m so sorry…”

She raised her head to look at who she had hit, and when her eyes met with the scary-looking man in front of her, her heart skipped a beat.

His face was full of tattoos. Only his eyes were spared. He had a ciger between his lips, and he was wearing a black hoodie.

“I’m sorry. I… I’ll leave now.” Amelia moved to the other side, and he moved in the same direction, blocking her way.

She moved to another side again, and he did the same thing. Amelia began to sweat all of a sudden, she could sense she was in trouble already.

“Please, let me go.” Her voice was shaky and full of fear.

He scoffed and took the cigar away from his mouth. He threw it on the floor and quenched the fire with his boot.

“You can escape easily. I don’t accept apologies.” His voice sounded fierce and devilish. Amelia’s throat tightened uncomfortably, and she bowed her head.

“What do you want then? Please don’t hurt me.”

“Give me everything you have!”

Before Amelia could react to his order, he snatched her bag from her, unzipped it and turned it upside down. Everything in her bag scattered on the paved floor.

Her eyes widened in terror. She was too shocked to move or speak. She was being robbed. For the very first time in her life.

He picked up her phone and the dollar notes that flew out of her bag. It was about $200.

“Please, don’t take the phone. I need to call my boss tonight,” She cried.

“Are you crazy? You should be happy I don’t want to f**k toot brains out right now. You are lucky you don’t entice me. Get the hell out of here!” He yelled, making her flinch.

She quickly went on her knees in tears, packed the documents and her apartment key back into her bag.

She picked up her bag and ran out of the deadly close, crying profusely.
