Chapter 131
Calvin realized that he had gone too far when he noticed the look in Ian's eyes. He cleared his throat and joked, "What I mean is, I get where you're coming from, but your delivery needs work. Why don’t you put yourself in her shoes for a second?
"Would you be thrilled if she dashed off to the hospital in the middle of the night to see some guy and returned the next morning with a present that was meant for someone else?"
lan frowned and said impatiently, "Look, she used to pester me for gifts. I figured bringing it back for her would get her off my back.”
"But you can't be so perfunctory,” Calvin responded. "Wouldn't you be upset as well if she gave you a gift that was bought by another guy?”
"Shut your trap.” lan snapped. "What other guy? Where the hell would she find another guy?"
He accidentally let his tongue slip again. Calvin smacked his forehead. "I was just giving you an example, lan. Look, even the example makes you uncomfortable. Don't you think it would make her uncomfortable as well?"
"But she knows damn well that nothing went on between Ivy and me. Ivy fainted. Did she expect me to just sit back and watch?" lan fumed. "If she didn’t constantly have it out for Ivy and pick fights with her, Ivy wouldn't have asked me to pass on the gift in the first place!”
Even though Calvin had a ton of complaints, he didn't dare to voice them out when he noticed lan's demeanor. Instead, he obsequiously chimed in, "lan, Mrs. Holcomb does seem a little unreasonable. You wouldn't even be with her if you were into Ivy!"
"Who are you to call her unreasonable?" lan tossed his proposal at him. "Redo it!"
Calvin felt as if he was about to burst into tears. What exactly did he do wrong this time? Why did he always manage to send his proposals when lan was in a bad mood?
"Oh, come on, lan! Please give me a few pointers. This is seriously the best I can do!" After a moment, a devilish grin appeared on his face. "If you don't, I'll stick to you 24 hours a day, wreck your dinner plans, and ensure you never get a moment alone with Mrs. Holcomb!"
In the end, lan glared at him. "Go to my office.”
"Roger that!"
In the afternoon, Sage received a phone call from Priscilla, urging her to go to Mimosa. When she arrived, she realized that not only were Priscila and the executives there, but Shane too.
Unlike the other employees at Mimosa, he seemed calm and unconcerned. However, the fact that Shane, their investor, was here showed that the issue was quite serious.
"What's going on, Priscilla?" Sage asked. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Priscilla’s assistant informed her that someone had been poisoned after drinking Mimosa's wine. They also showed her a hospital report stating that Mimosa's wine was substandard and was intentionally hyped to lure consumers into making impulsive purchases.
Mimosa was accused of selling poor-quality wine at a premium for a quick buck. There were a lot of return requests on the internet at the moment.
"We've released the inspection report and food safety certificates, and although it appeased the netizens, most of them are still buying into the rumors. If this continues and more people start spreading false rumors, things could get really messy," her assistant explained
Sage understood what to do. "Priscilla, have you found out who's behind this?"
After all, she had also drunk the wine, but she was perfectly fine. Plus, Mimosa had just bounced back. Everyone must've been extra careful with the quality at this critical juncture. Therefore, this incident must've been orchestrated.
Priscilla narrowed her eyes. "There's no need. I'm sure Benjamin's the one behind this."
