Chapter 449 Courting Her Just to Use Her
The person on the other end of the line said something, and Edison’s expression grew stern. Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
He scanned his surroundings to ensure he was alone before lowering his voice. “Are you in Wesbruck? Where are you? I’ll come to find you now.”
30 minutes later, Edison returned to his palace.
As he entered the living room, he spotted a man in a suit and leather shoes sitting on the sofa.
The man, who had his back to Edison, was preened. Upon hearing Edison’s entrance, he turned his head and flashed a smile.
Edison studied him.
The man had a slender face, piercing eyes, and a straight nose. He appeared to be in his fifties but was well-preserved, with nary a wrinkle on his face.
More than a decade had passed, yet it seemed as though nothing had changed.
“It’s been so long. Don’t tell me you don’t recognize me?” The man’s voice was calm and composed, his eagle-like eyes shining bright.
Edison returned the smile. “Uncle Collins.”
“Who is Uncle Collins?” The man shook his head. “My name is Pablo Davidson now. I’m the owner of Davidson Construction. From now on, you can call me Uncle Pablo.”
Edison was taken aback for a moment before a knowing smile spread across his lips. “So, Davidson Construction belongs to you.’
He had rescued Ziana five years ago, and in return, the Scott family had thrown their support behind him in Wesbruck, engaging in extensive cooperation with him.
These cooperative companies had generated substantial GDP, allowing him to hold his head high within the Western Royalty.
Among them stood Davidson Construction, a towering company that rivaled none other than the Scott family’s industries.
The mere mention of its name evoked awe and admiration. The reason for this was simple. He had never met the owner of the company, yet the man had chosen to cooperate with them.
Even when faced with more attractive offers from the other royal family themselves, Davidson Construction turned them down without hesitation.
Edison remembered how he had longed to meet Davidson Construction’s boss many times before, but each time he tried, the man would prevaricate with various excuses.
Finally, he understood why.
Pablo clearly didn’t want to talk about work anymore. He sized Edison up a few times before asking directly, “What about the things I asked you to get?”
“Here.” Edison, who was thinking about the same thing, quickly took out a wad of tissues from his pocket. He presented it carefully to Pablo, “Uncle Collins, I mean, Uncle Pablo, her hair is inside. Do you want to take a look?”
Pablo nodded, took the wad of tissues, and placed it in his pocket. He then stood up and declared,
“I’ve got what I needed. I’ll be going now.”
“Wait!” Edison stopped him nervously. “Why do you need Ziana’s hair? How will it help me? Does this have anything to do with getting her back?”
“Of course, it does,” Pablo replied with a strange smile. “But I can’t tell you yet.”
Edison pursed his lips, hesitating.
Pablo patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. I will help you get her back.”
“What do I need to do?” Edison asked eagerly.
Pablo paused for a moment, deep in thought. “There is something you could try. Have you sounded Boris out?”
“No, I can’t see any flaws. Did you catch what happened at the banquet today?” Edison’s stunning face took on a look of irritation at the mention of Boris.
Pablo chuckled. “I did. He seems like a real fool. Might as well let him help you one more time before he kicks the bucket.”
“What do you mean?” Edison was puzzled.
Pablo leaned in and whispered something in Edison’s ear. As he pulled back, he raised an eyebrow. “Can it be done?”
Edison drew in a deep breath, his eyes resolute. “I’ll make the arrangements.”
Pablo waved his hand and sauntered out of the palace.
Edison sat in his chair for a while before making a call. “Prepare something for me.”
Once everything was in order, Edison washed his face and left the palace to return to the banquet.
The festivities were still in full swing. He had made up an excuse to come out, and Winifred was still in the changing room.
But not long after leaving the palace, he ran into Winifred, who was hurrying to find him.
“Edison!” she exclaimed upon seeing him, her eyes lighting up with joy.
She trotted over to him and grabbed his arm. “Didn’t you say you were going out for some fresh air? Why did you come here? This is practically your palace!”
As she spoke, her eyes darted around as if searching for someone.
Edison noticed her furtive movements and sneered inwardly. “I had something to take care of,” he said flatly.
“Oh.” Winifred sounded only half-convinced. “Are you here to see someone?”
Edison turned his head to look at her but said nothing.
Winifred felt a shiver run down her spine at his gaze, but the jealousy and suspicion in her heart only grew stronger.
She hadn’t forgotten that when Boris had kicked her into the swimming pool earlier, Edison had still been thinking about Ziana.
He had said he was going to change his clothes, but in the blink of an eye he had vanished, only to reappear here.
“Edison! Are you here to see Ziana?” Winifred finally asked. “We’re getting engaged, remember? You promised my father that you’d marry me. If you dare to break your promise, you’ll get nothing in the end!”
Edison sneered, “Yes, I came to see Ziana. But if you don’t provoke her, do I need to apologize to her?”
Winifred’s face twisted into a scowl. “If you hadn’t talked to her and smiled at her, I wouldn’t have made things difficult for her.”
Edison retorted, “What do you mean? I can’t smile at her or talk to her anymore?”
“No!” Winifred gritted her teeth. “Everyone knows you like her. When you talk to her, do you even think of me?”
Edison frowned. “Who said I like her?”
Winifred was stunned. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t like her.” He would cut off ties with her tomorrow anyway. Now he just wanted her to stop bothering him, so he said in a cold voice, “I courted her just to use her, to win the support of the Scott family and ascend the throne.”
Winifred’s face lit up with delight. “Are you serious?”
“Believe it or not,” Edison replied dryly, noticing her expression. He left her with those words and headed toward the banquet hall.
Winifred hurriedly said, “I believe you. Edison, wait for me! Don’t worry, once you marry me, I will have my father help you. He will definitely help you to ascend the throne! At that time, you will be the king of Wesbruck, and I will be the queen!”
The banquet continued into the late night.
Because of his words, Winifred trailed after Edison all night like a lovesick puppy, clinging to his arm as if her life depended on it.
The guests couldn’t help but comment on their closeness, teasing and making fun of them toward the end of the banquet.
Winifred was elated. Finally, as the night wore on, she still clung to Edison’s arm.
“It’s late, go back and rest,” he told Winifred quietly. “There’s an engagement banquet tomorrow morning.”
“Okay! I’ll be in my best shape.” Winifred pouted and said, “But you have to walk me back.”
Edison complied, escorting her back to her quarters before returning to his palace where Jackson was dozing off, his head bobbing slightly.
“Did you find the thing?” he asked sharply, causing Jackson to jump up in terror and shake off his drowsiness. “Edison, you’re back!”
“Yeah.” Edison slumped into a chair, looking exhausted, “Where’s the stuff?”
“I gave it to the person like you told me to,” Jackson reported. “But are you sure about this? Once you do it, you can’t turn back.”
“I’ve thought it through.”
Edison took a deep breath, a hint of malice glinting in his eyes.
